1) Since this post, I've found that the dry, powdery snow makes the best snow ice cream!
2) Due to all the emails and messages I've received, I've also found that a lot of people have very serious opinions about ingesting snow. Basically, it comes down to doing what you feel is best for your family. I won't judge you for vaccinating/not vaccinating, using cloth diapers/using disposables, breastfeeding/bottle feeding, eating processed foods/eating organic, if you promise not to judge me for eating Snow Ice Cream. We really do live in the middle of nowhere so I'm not concerned about air pollutants. In fact, I'm more concerned about pollutants in our ground water due to chemicals and fertilizers from the fields than I am about pollutants above us. If I lived in a city or on a busy street, I might think differently. So, before going any further, use your own judgement and do your own research.

Our big winter storm is here and we are officially snowed in. More than likely, we'll be here for a few days so I already have activities lined up to keep our 3 year old from going stir crazy. His favorite activity? Making Snow Ice Cream. When I told him it was going to snow, the first thing he asked me was, "Can we make ice cream?"
Granted, it's not Ben & Jerry's, but it's still pretty good. And, you can make it as healthy as you'd like!
Take a mixing bowl outside and scoop up about 4-5 cups of fresh (and CLEAN) snow. Back inside, mix 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/4 c sugar and 1 cup of milk or cream with the snow. You can add more or less sugar to suit your tastes.
TIP: Coconut milk makes GREAT Snow Ice Cream. If you want a creamer 'ice cream' use table or whipping cream.
You can even jazz up your Snow Ice Cream with your favorite toppings.
What are your favorite activities for snow days?
